We got engaged on the top of Schiehallion, which is a peak in Perthshire within Highland Scotland. Schiehallion is a 'Munro' (a mountain over 3000') and has stunning views west across to the west coast and iconic places such as Glen Coe, Rannoch Moor and Ben Nevis.
It is a special mountain for both of us - John loves the superb views from the top and the feel of a real mountain peak - and Charonne found climbing this mountain a challenge for a while, after a bout of ill health, before finally 'conquering' it in 2019.
It is sometimes described as the centre of Scotland, as it lies only 5 km west of the 'centre of gravity' of mainland Scotland and has a unique place in scientific history as the location of Charles Hutton's experiment to 'weigh the Earth'. During this experiment, Hutton invented what would become known as 'contour lines', so for John, a geographer by background, this really is a special place!
